Q&A

All that you need to know

Flights

Direct to Dakar (DSS) from New York, Washington DC, Paris, Madrid, Barcelona, Brussels, Milan, Marseille, Casablanca, Istanbul and Dubai. Delta, Air France Iberia and Vueling are the preferred carriers and operate the best time slots. - Depending on your inbound origin airport, it will be a day flight - Returns are mostly night flights (other than USA direct)

Visas

None of you should need a visa. Double check online (depending on your passport nationality) and call us if you have questions.  Senegal is a visa free country for Shengen, UK and USA passport holders. Mona will be at the airport and available before departure for all visa related questions.

In Country Transportation

All your transportation from the moment you land to your departure, is arranged – All we need is your schedule.  Coaches and SUV/drivers on-hand all week(end).

Weather

End November the weather is almost perfect in Senegal.  It is typically up to 30 degrees in day and 20 degrees at night, little/no humidity, bring a jumper/shawl for the evenings just in case.

Attire

Thursday dinner in Dakar is smart casual. The rest of the meals/events are outdoors or on the beach, so bring your finest summer clothing.  You’ll be doing a historic tour in Dakar and a little surprise at the beach, both that include boats (ferry and smaller), so sneakers and beach clothing for those trips. Our wedding ceremony is on Saturday @ 1800 on the beach – Men/boys summer suits and open neck shirt (no ties please), ladies/girls as beach glamorous as you like. Shoes optional.

Children

We have 13 children from Lau & Dan’s family and more from friends joining us for the weekend. This is a children friendly wedding.  All meals are catered for the children.  Nannies will be with us at the beach from our local staff, if you need nanny support in Dakar, please let us know.  We are planning the children will be with us at every meal and event. For Thursday’s dinner in Dakar, a hotel room is available for them to sleep while we have dinner, if required for the youngest.

Safety

Dakar and Senegal are safe. The locals are warm and friendly. We suggest not bringing your finest jewellery, as it can be an unnecessary temptation for hotel staff etc., plus you’ll worry. We will have staff with us at all times, especially as we are a large group.  The children will play football on the beach with the locals. Our hotel in Dakar is a secure compound slightly outside the city centre with everything you’ll need. Yokan and Patrick’s Lodges are remote and within their own compound, so zero safety issues.

Vaccines and Medication

For entry into Senegal, everyone should have a Yellow Fever vaccine with paperwork to prove so, rarely is it asked for, better to have it.  Malaria is rare in Senegal, certainly not in the locations we are going to, however, basic malaria medication can be purchased from your physician, which you take before, during and after the trip, if you decide you’d like to, this is optional, we recommend you speak with your physician.

Extended trips

Several of you are thinking of making a longer trip out of our wedding.  We think it’s a terrific idea.  If you’d like to, please let us know what you’re thinking and we can support your plans and help organize it with you.

Dietary restrictions

If you have any allergies or dietary restrictions, please specify them in the RSVP form.
